Athlete of the Week: Sean Cleary
Cleary Gave The Gators Plenty Of Bite
Softball pitcher Sean Cleary is The Telegram Sports Department’s choice as Athlete of the Week.
Cleary helped the Toronto Gators, a Toronto-based travelling team, to the International Softball Congress championship Sunday in Moline, IL.
He was named the tournament’s Most Outstanding Pitcher and 1st Team All-World. Cleary was 5-0 with a 0.97 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 36 innings pitched.
In the final, a 6-3 win over the Hill United Chiefs, Cleary allowed five hits and fanned 13.
The Gators won the game on Shane Boland’s 3R Home Run in the Bottom of the 7th Inning. Boland hails from the Goulds.
