Softballers Among Finalists For 2016 Provincal Awards

NL Fastpitch is proud to announce that Sean Cleary, Galway Hitmen Men’s Fastpitch Team & Paul F. Smith have been named Finalists for the 2016 Provincial Annual Awards.

The Stars & Legends Awards Gala will be held on Saturday, April 8th, 2017 at The Sheraton Hotel in St. John’s, NL.

Sean Cleary (Harbour Main) has been named a Finalists for the 2016 Senior Male Athlete of the Year Award. The winner will be presented with the Ferd Hayward Memorial Award.

Galway Hitmen Men’s Fastpitch Team has been named a Finalists for the 2016 Team of the Year Award. The winner will be presented with the Edward Browne Memorial Award.

Paul F. Smith (Upper Gullies) has been named a Finalists for the 2016 Executive of the Year Award. The winner will be presented with the Graham Snow Memorial Award.

Paul F. Smith (Upper Gullies) went above and beyond his role as President of Softball Newfoundland and Labrador in 2016. He chaired Board meetings, the Annual General Meeting, represented Softball Newfoundland and Labrador at the Softball Canada Annual General Meeting, filled in as Umpire in Chief in an acting capacity and was involved with the day-to-day operations of the organization. He has spent countless hours on softball related issues including the hiring of office staff for the summer months, drafting schedules for provincial tournaments, filling in to umpire when called upon, answering calls and emails from minor and adult associations, serving on several committees including the Moss Tournament Committee, the Hall of Fame Committee, and the Host Committee for The Canadian Senior Men’s Fastpitch Championships, along with many other tasks throughout the year. Paul is a dedicated and hard working individual whose energy and commitment contributes to the development of the sport of softball in Newfoundland and Labrador.
