Wayne Roderick Sharpe, age 72, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, May 22nd, 2024, at the Health Sciences Centre surrounded by family.

Wayne was born on February 22, 1952 in Stephenville to Ronald and Doris Sharpe. Wayne moved to St. John’s at a young age and eventually married his high school sweetheart, Heather. Wayne was an avid athlete playing mostly every sport including basketball, softball, baseball, tennis and hockey. When Wayne realized he couldn’t swim, his plans of becoming a physical education teacher changed, “steering” him in the direction of Insurance. He owned and operated Steers Insurance for almost 5 decades and was a key contributor and icon in the insurance industry. His honesty and generosity were something to be admired and he will be missed but never forgotten.

Predeceased by his mother and father, Ronald and Doris Sharpe. Parents in law Douglas and Jean Moore. Brother in laws Neil Murphy and Tony Stuckless.

Leaving to mourn his wife, Heather Sharpe (nee Moore); sons, Jeff (Devon) and Jason (Laura); granddaughters, Hillary and Natalie; grandsons Brett and Justin; sisters, Linda Stuckless, Pam Cahill (Randy); brother Kevin Sharpe (Terry); Siblings in law Garry Moore (Bev), Keith Moore (Linda), Scott Moore, Lisa Murphy, Ian Moore (Allison). As well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

We would like to thank Dr. Joe Lockyer and the respiratory therapists and all staff at HSC. Dr. Shawn Martin and Dr. Mercedes Penton who helped Wayne along the way. All the nurses in the HSC that cared for Wayne especially on 4SB.

A special thank you to Roz and Doug Grant and Lisa Murphy for all the support to Heather and the family. Finally, we would like to extend our thanks to all the family, friends and colleagues, who have been there for Wayne and us over the years. It is difficult to put into words how much this meant, but just know that we appreciate and love you all so much.
