NL Fastpitch Is Saddened To Learn That Loyola Mackey Passed Away On Saturday, February 04, 2023.

Loyola Mackey
Loyola Mackey played 20-years (1962-1980 & 1983) in the St. John's Senior Men's Fastptich League.
Locally, Loyola captured 6 League Championships (1965, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1982 & 1983), 3 Playoff MVP Awards (1964, 1967 & 1969), 1 Regular Season MVP Award (1965) and 1 Playoff Top Batter Award (1967). Loyola earned 5 Shutout titles (1965, 1966, 1967, 1968 & 1969), 3 Pitching Titles - Wins (1964, 1965 & 1969), 1 Earned Run Average Title (1966) and recorded 4 Regular Season No-Hitters (1965, 1966, 1972 & 1974). Off the field, Loyola served 4-Years on the Senior League Executive: Vice-President (1970) and Player Representative (1976, 1977 & 1978).
Provincially, Loyola was a member of 5 Provinical Senior Championship Teams as an athlete - St. John's Capitals (1967), Chester Dawe Lumberjacks (1969), St. John's Capitals (1971), St. John's Capitals (1973), Stokes Angels (1974) and 1 as a coach - Labatt Blues (1983).
Nationally, Loyola was a member of 3 Senior Men's National Teams as an athlete - St. John's Capitals (1972), St. John's Capitals (1973) and Stokes Angels (1974) and 1 as a coach - St. John's Capitals (1983).
Loyola is a member of the St. John's Softball Hall of Fame and the Softball NL Hall of Fame (Class of 1985).

Loyola Mackey (1944-2023)
Loyola Edward Mackey (Mack) passed peacefully away from Pleasant View Towers after a courageous battle with Lewy Body Dementia, two weeks shy of his 79th birthday.
Leaving to mourn his devoted partner of over thirty years, Gail Durdle, who was by his side everyday. His daughters Renee (Brad) Winsor and Karen (Stephen) Noseworthy and their mother Sandra. Grandchildren Jack, Maggie, Peyton and Ben and Gail’s daughters, Natasha (Colin) Feehan and Melanie Gordon (Chris) along with their sons Nolan and Ethan. Sisters Beth (Harry) Snow, Jean (Tom) Barron, Marg Pannock and Sister Alice Mackey. As well as, numerous nieces and nephews, extended family and friends.
As a Softball Hall of Fame pitcher some of Mackey’s happiest and fondest memories were on the softball field where he had many friends and maybe as many enemies at times, but no grudges ever held. He lived the way he played sports with lots of passion. Even in his final days he would always be “pitching a ball”. His passion for sports carried over in watching his grandchildren on the ball field, rink and basketball court.
